Building a More Inclusive Community: Humbowl’s Neurodiverse Hiring Program

Humbowl’s Neurodiverse Hiring Program

At Humbowl, we believe food should nourish more than just your body—it should nourish community, connection, and compassion. That’s why one of the most important ingredients in our business isn’t on the menu: our people.

We’re proud to share something deeply meaningful to us—Humbowl’s Neurodiverse Hiring Program—a growing initiative born from personal inspiration and rooted in a simple belief: everyone deserves a seat at the table.

Why We Started This Program

Our program was inspired by Lincoln, the son of our founder, who is autistic. Through Lincoln, we’ve seen firsthand the challenges neurodiverse individuals face in our society—not because of a lack of talent or heart, but because our world isn’t built with them in mind.

So we decided to change that in the workplace—starting right here in Berkeley.

Our 3 Core Goals

  1. Create meaningful employment
We want to offer more than a job—we want to create purpose, confidence, and growth. For many neurodiverse individuals, traditional employment opportunities are hard to come by. At Humbowl, we build roles that fit people, not the other way around.

  2. Foster connection through exposure
Every time you visit Humbowl, there’s a chance you’ll interact with someone who sees and experiences the world a little differently. These everyday interactions are powerful. They help break down stereotypes, build empathy, and normalize neurodiversity in public spaces.

  3. Promote community-wide acceptance
Inclusion starts with visibility. By hiring and supporting neurodiverse staff, we hope to help shift cultural norms—first in our shops, and then far beyond. Our ultimate goal? To expand this program to our San Rafael location and all future Humbowls.

A Personal Mission

This isn’t just a business initiative—it’s a personal mission. Our founder is deeply involved in the autism community and works closely with families, advocates, and professionals to ensure our program reflects real needs and real opportunities for impact.

We’ve been humbled by the incredible people who’ve joined our team through this program—and we’re just getting started.

How You Can Support

  • Be kind and patient with every member of our team.

  • Celebrate differences as strengths.

  • Share our story—and help us change the narrative around neurodiverse employment.

Thank you for being part of a community that values inclusion, dignity, and a future where everyone belongs.
